'Deformed,' Mr. Miller? Really?
It's 2026. Do you know where your America is?
I’m given to understand that Trump supporters see people such as myself, who loathe the president with disgust-fueled fervor, who ache for an end to his demolition of America before there is more blood and treasure lost to an indecent man’s whim, as … well, “communists” is the latest feint.
Trump’s deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, warns that people like me are a “cancer” threatening civilization. The context here involves protesters, and oh how I wish I could count myself among those in the streets.
I cannot. I’m old. I have health issues. I am no threat to anyone.
Yet, I’m confident I oppose Trump and Trumpism as vehemently as my fellow anti-fascists who are on the front lines, so to speak. We’re all seeking redress for a horrifying and growing litany of grievances.
Let’s never forget that list includes the murders of innocent U.S. citizens by a masked secret police force on American streets.
I am one of the people whom Miller — openly delighting in his Nazi framing — characterizes as “deformed in some way,” because I oppose the un-American vitriol he spews.
More importantly, I oppose treating human beings, including the rare dangerous criminal caught up in Trump’s deportation blitzkrieg, as anything other than human beings.
We have laws. We have due process. This administration has mocked both since taking office.
I hear the harrumphing when someone insists that America is better than this. But, we are better than this.
The whole world is astonished by the dark turn the United States has taken.
The whole world knows Donald Trump and his enablers are responsible.
Even in some of our most difficult days, when tragedy followed tragedy, American democracy prevailed, overcoming enough hate and ignorance to sustain itself for another generation.
No, Mr. Miller, it’s the Trump administration that is the cancer and you are among its most malignant lesions.
We will overcome your kind. Again.
